Consumer Coalition Opposes CMS Approach on Undocumented Immigrants Receiving Emergency Health Care
The Consumer Coalition for Health Privacy (CCHP) submitted a letter today to CMS Administrator Dr. Mark McClellan in opposition to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) proposed implementation approach of section 1011 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (“Section 1011”). A broad range of participating organizations signed onto the letter, which strongly urges CMS to abandon its plan that requires hospitals to collect and share information on undocumented patients as a condition of receiving federal funds.
